WHiP Architecture recently completed a K-12 Facilities Maintenance Study for E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, DC. This study included assessing the expected timeline of renewal and/or replacement of building elements and major equipment, which will inform the charter school’s capital improvements planning strategy.
WHiP Architecture is currently the Architect of Record for the renovations to the Vie Towers Student Housing building located on Belcrest Road in Hyattsville, MD. Originally built in 2006 as University Towers, Vie Development purchased the 15-story property earlier this year to renovate and rebrand the facility which currently provides residential accommodations for students at Howard University, Catholic University and University of Maryland College Park.
WHiP Architecture provided architectural design services to HEP Construction on a design-build project to renovate and expand the existing Stage at the Congress Heights campus for Center City Public Charter School in Washington, DC.
Patterson High School in East Baltimore is a Year 1 school under the Baltimore City Public Schools 21st-Century Buildings Plan. Built in 1960, the existing 310,805 SF school has seen enrollment decrease substantially over the years.
This new, high-performance, LEED Platinum certified school building, replaces the existing 1977 facility. The design inspiration leans heavily on the Collegiate-Gothic aesthetic of the original school building built in 1917 as the first municipally funded public high school for black students.
Working off Bridging Architect documents that produced Schematic Designs for the complete modernization of this existing, 46,800 square foot school, a design-build delivery approach was implemented by OPEFM (now DC DGS) to complete the detailed design and construction of the school's Phase 1 Modernization.
In October 2009, the DC Office of Public Education and Facilities Modernization (OPEFM) identified fourteen schools in the District of Columbia under the FY 2010 Elementary Schools program for complete Phased Modernization as prescribed by the OPEFM 2008 Master Facilities Plan (MFP).
The team of Ziger/Snead & SHW Group was one of six architectural firms that competed for the chance to redesign and renovate the Langsdale Library building, which is located on the southwest corner of Maryland Avenue and Oliver Street.
Identified as a programmatic need as a result of its Campus Master Plan update, The UDC David A. Clarke School of Law was relocated into an existing campus facility. Design services called for the modernization of the existing six story building on the campus for the expanding law program that will reach 650 students.
Located on the western edge of the Howard University campus, Myrtilla Miner Hall was designed by Leon Dessez in Colonial Revival style and built in the 1902. The building is a District of Columbia Landmark, National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 2012, the District of Columbia Department of General Services (DC DGS) issued a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) to engage an architect/engineer to provide a full range of design services associated with the renovation and expansion of the SE Tennis & Learning Center. The existing facility is located at 701 Mississippi Avenue, SE, Washington, DC and was constructed in 2001.
The Allentown Fitness, Tennis and Splash Park, a public recreational and aquatic facility, required a much needed renovation. The project scope required additions to and renovation of this existing facility, located on a relatively flat 10.51 acre site.
The Anacostia Pool and Recreation Center facilities include a baseball field, basketball court, multipurpose field - football/soccer, park site, playground, roller hockey rink, and tennis court. Patrick prepared the design and construction drawings for the renovation of this community center to accommodate an elevator, an expanded lobby area, provision for handicap ramps, and building code upgrades.
